Company continues to expand network of international supply depots
While AmerisourceBergen works through the legal and operational issues attached to its latest acquisition, World Courier, World’s main competitor, Marken (London; US HQ in Uniondale, NY) is keeping busy filling out more of its range of services. Most recently, the company announced a prequalified packaging solution, called BioSystem, to keep clinical specimens frozen for up to 72 hours. The containers are available in 5-, 9- and 15-kg capacities, and their main selling point is that they can be used universally for all clinical shipments (Marken operates in 150 countries). Dry ice is used to maintain the necessary degree of coldness, but BioSystem also has high-efficiency insulation that reduces dry ice consumption, according to the company.
At the same time, it is continuing its stated goal of building out a global network of storage and supply depots, which are primarily geared toward support of clinical trial programs, but will eventually accommodate commercial shipments as well. The latest facility, due for completion at the end of this year, is in Bangalore, India, joining another facility already in operation in Mumbai. Three other depots—New Delhi, Hydrabad and Pune—are being planned. Besides providing cGMP-compliant storage of clinical trial materials, APIs and specimens, each depot will also provide pick & pack, relabeling, reverse logistics and certified destruction services.
