Forces pharma giant to hand over marketing communications with Meta.
As a part of an ongoing lawsuit against Meta, the state of Texas has filed a subpoena against Pfizer. As per the subpoena, the pharmaceutical giant is required to share all information regarding interactions with the tech giant including marketing, use of facial recognition technology, user accessibility, engagement, and satisfaction.
According to a court filing from February 2022, the state cited the “unlawful capture of biometric identifiers of Texans for a commercial purpose without their informed consent.” Seeking $25,000 for each violation of Texas’s Capture of Use of Biometric Identifier Act, and another $10,000 for each violation of Texas’ Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act, the state claims Meta neglected to discard these identifiers and continued to share them with other companies.
