Highly automated facility can process 50 million prescriptions annually for CVS Caremark's book of business

CVS Caremark’s grand opening brought out Pat Quinn, Illinois governor, who congratulated the company for the economic boost it provides. CVS notes that the Mt. Prospect facility uses proprietary technology to enable 90% of prescriptions to be dispensed and 80% of prescriptions to be packaged for mailing, using full automation. "The combination of technologically advanced automation and the expertise of our highly qualified pharmacy teams help us ensure people have convenient access to affordable medications," said Larry Merlo, CEO of CVS Caremark, in a statement.

The facility includes video technology to provide real-time telepresence between staff specialists and pharmacists at CVS retail stores, mail-service pharmacists and nurse practitioners at CVS Minute Clinics.
