UPS combines 24/7 shipment monitoring with replacement-value insurance
Geared for time- and temperature-sensitive shipments like healthcare products, Proactive Response Secure insures delivery throughout the US
Proactive Response, a service that UPS has provided for several years, includes real-time monitoring of shipments and ancillary services like dry ice replenishment or rerouting for delays. Some 15 million such shipments were made in 2012, says the company. Now, by drawing on resources from UPS Capital, the company combines the monitoring with an insurance policy that guarantees retail replacement value if a shipment misses a predetermined delivery time or condition. Proactive Response Secure is available throughout the US and Puerto Rico, and for outbound shipments to most countries in the European Union. Relevant service types include Next Day Air,Next Day Early A.M., and Worldwide Express, among others, says Dirk van Peteghem, VP, UPS Healthcare Logistics. “Any of these services can be arranged on one invoice, providing both convenience and peace of mind to shippers,” he says.
UPS Healthcare Logistics also announced upgrades and expansions of its healthcare logistics network, which now includes 42 dedicated worldwide, totaling over 6.4 million sq.ft. The latest is a 58,000-sq.ft. facility in Durham, NC (sometimes called “Vaccine Valley” because of the concentration of such manufacturers there). Proactive Response monitoring services are now available in additional international trade lanes, and an expanded next-flight-out service for UPS Express Critical.
