Cold chain consolidation: CSafe Global and Kalibox

Acquisition expands CSafe’s manufacturing capacity in Europe

Two longtime players in packaging and transportation equipment for pharma cold-chain products, CSafe Global, based in Dayton, OH and Kalibox, based in Paris, are merged through CSafe’s acquisition of the latter. For CSafe, the acquisition adds over 5,000 sq. m. of manufacturing capacity in Europe to the 15,000 sq. m. of capacity at six US locations.

Kalibox, founded in 2001, specializes in insulated shipping containers, pallet shippers and refrigerants. Usual product lines are containers insulated with polyurethane foam for a variety of temperature ranges. The company also has an accredited testing laboratory.

CSafe is perhaps best known for its RKN active (powered) pallet containers that act as unit-load devices for air freight. But the company has been offering its Acu-Temp line of vacuum-insulated-panel containers, along with a returns program (branded as Repaq) that enables reuse of the containers. Between active and passive shipping solutions, foamed-plastic and vacuum-panel insulation, CSafe’s CEO, Brian Kohr, asserts that “CSafe currently has the industry’s broadest line of cold chain solutions.”
