Pharma Pulse: MFN Expansion, GoodRx's Family Plan, CSafe's Reusable Cover

In this week's Pharma Pulse, nine more drugmakers join the MFN program, GoodRx adds a family plan, IPC formalizes its USave partnership, and CSafe expands its thermal cover offerings.

Welcome to Pharma Pulse, a Pharmaceutical Commerce podcast bringing you the latest insights shaping patient access, regulatory policy, and healthcare innovation. I'm your host, and let's get into today's headlines.

First up, President Trump announced nine new MFN agreements with manufacturers, bringing the total roster to 26 companies that the administration says now cover 89% of the branded drug market. The deals extend MFN pricing to state Medicaid programs across therapeutic areas from oncology to ophthalmology, and they come paired with more than $19.6 billion in pledged US manufacturing investment, including API donations to the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserve from companies like UCB, Sun Pharma, and Astellas. The manufacturing commitments may matter more than the pricing itself, offering an early read on how sourcing strategies could shift heading into 2027.

Next, GoodRx is widening its subscription net to the whole family, pets included. The company launched its Companion Family Plan this week, a $24.99-a-month membership covering a primary member and up to four dependents with access to more than 250 free generic medications and savings on dental, vision, lab, and imaging services.1 GoodRx says the plan is designed to reflect how households actually manage healthcare costs, and the company plans to extend it to employers through GoodRx Employer Direct, giving it another channel to grow beyond individual prescription transactions. GoodRx frames the expansion as reinforcing existing pharmacy relationships and prescription volume rather than routing patients elsewhere.

In other news, the independent pharmacy channel saw some consolidation of its own. Independent Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC) completed its acquisition of USave Pharmacy Group, formalizing a partnership between the two purchasing cooperatives that dates back to 2017. Existing IPC support functions will keep serving USave's member pharmacies unchanged, with the deal framed around continuity rather than integration. It's another example of cooperatives consolidating with each other, rather than absorbing independent stores directly, as a way to preserve local pharmacy ownership while pooling purchasing leverage against PBM reimbursement pressure.

Lastly, the cold chain got a little more sustainable. CSafe launched Silverskin RE PMC, a reusable thermal cover built for multi-pallet air freight shipments of temperature-sensitive therapies.2 The PMC-sized cover uses six-layer compressible insulation to protect payloads in both the +2 to +8-degree and +15 to +25-degree Celsius ranges, and its modular design accommodates up to eight Euro pallets or six US pallets at a height of 1.5 meters. CSafe is backing the cover with a full refurbishment program meant to sustain performance over repeated use, giving shippers, freight forwarders, and airlines a way to cut waste and disposal costs on high-volume lanes without compromising temperature integrity. CEO Patrick Schafer said the launch rounds out CSafe's Silverskin portfolio with a reusable, PMC-sized option backed by that refurbishment commitment.2
