Welcome to Pharma Pulse, a Pharmaceutical Commerce podcast where we bring you the latest insights shaping patient access, supply chain/logistics, data & tech, and healthcare innovation. I’m your host, and let’s get into today’s headlines.
- First, Novartis has officially
broken ground on its new 700,000-square-foot flagship hub in North Carolina. This project—spanning sites in Morrisville and Durham—is a cornerstone of the company’s massive $23 billion commitment to US infrastructure. The facility is expected to be operational by 2027-2028, focusing on end-to-end production for key therapies in oncology, immunology, and neuroscience. This move follows a broader industry trend toward domestic onshoring, echoed by Moderna’s recent $140 million investment in Massachusetts to strengthen supply chain resilience. - Next, a look at the future of research. Lunit and Daiichi Sankyo have announced a
major collaboration to integrate AI-powered digital pathology into oncology programs. By using Lunit’s SCOPE products, the partnership aims to discover next-gen biomarkers and refine patient stratification. CEO Brandon Suh says this will unlock "hidden insights" from pathology slides, leading to more efficient clinical trials and, ultimately, better patient outcomes in translational oncology. - Lastly, a national study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings reveals that
social isolation is a primary driver of physician burnout and suicidal ideation. Researchers found that women and early-career doctors are at the highest risk. To combat this, the study suggests implementing peer support programs, based on the US Army’s "Battle Buddy" system, to foster workplace connections and protect those who care for us.
