Annual competition promotes the use of compliance packaging to improve medication adherence and safety
The entry door is now open for submissions to the Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council (HCPC; Richmond, VA) for its annual Package of the Year. The winners will be announced at the trade association’s annual RxAdherence meeting, to be held on March 12 in Florham Park, NJ. Submissions must be for products introduced commercially anywhere in the world during 2012; an Innovative Product of the Year is also awarded for newly introduced packaging technology not yet commercialized. Deadline for submissions is Feb. 15.
It seems to have been a good year for compliance packaging, in that medication adherence is rising in industry attention, and several studies have pointed to the positive health results, and favorable economics, of compliance packaging (blister cards, foil containers and other forms of unit-dose packaging). Nevertheless, the traditional dichotomy between pharma packaging in the US (where most tablets are delivered in bulk or in 30-count bottles) versus Europe (where most are delivered in unit-dose form) still holds.
