50% expansion adds to facility's pharma capacity; emphasis on cold chain services
Kuehne + Nagel, one of the largest global logistics companies, has built up its KN PharmaChain brand of healthcare logistics solutions in recent years, with its Contract Logistics division sharing in the growth of this overall category. Now, it is adding roughly 50% more capacity to its Memphis, TN facility, which already has over 200,000 sq. ft. of warehouse capacity, mostly dedicated to life sciences. A 10-year contract with an unspecified client has enabled the company to add 117,000 sq. ft, including 36,800 for 2-8°C service, 24,500 for -25°C cryogenic service, and 43,000 for controlled-ambient conditions. An additional 20,000 sq. ft. is available for packaging operations. The facility is highly automated, GxP-compliant and certified as a Verified Authorized Wholesale Distributor (VAWD). Domestic and international shipments will be handled. Already operational after a six-month construction schedule, it had its official opening in mid-August.
“We are honored that Kuehne + Nagel has been chosen as the best fit logistics partner for their company,” said John Hextall, President and CEO of Kuehne + Nagel North America. “Kuehne + Nagel continues to invest in our KN PharmaChain solutions — our systems, facilities and employees in order to guarantee our high service and quality standards for the inventory control and transport of pharmaceutical products.”
Kuehne + Nagel currently has 49 healthcare-logistics facilities in 21 countries. KN PharmaChain offers dedicated, end-to-end supply chain solutions for life sciences shipments, from a GxP compliant infrastructure, managed through a single point of contact.
