Pharma Pulse: Merger Fever, Lilly’s $1.2B Inflammatory Bet, and the Birth of CareTria
In today’s Pharma Pulse, healthcare leaders brace for a surge in dealmaking, Eli Lilly secures a suite of oral NLRP3 inhibitors, and Knipper Health rebrands to streamline the path from order to therapy.
Welcome to Pharma Pulse, a Pharmaceutical Commerce podcast where we bring you the latest insights shaping patient access, supply chain/logistics, data & tech, and healthcare innovation. I’m your host, and let’s get into today’s headlines.
- We begin with a pulse check on industry dealmaking. According to a
new KPMG survey , 2026 is shaping up to be a year of significant consolidation. Nearly three-quarters of life sciences executives and 61% of healthcare leaders expect merger activity to ramp up this year. While healthcare systems face uncertainty over federal policies and reimbursement, the overall sentiment is bullish, with leaders looking to mergers as a primary lever for growth and operational scale after a period of relative caution. - In one of the year’s first major biopharma blockbuster deals, Eli Lilly has entered a definitive $1.2 billion agreement to acquire Ventyx Biosciences. This
all-cash transaction brings Ventyx’s promising pipeline of oral small-molecule NLRP3 inhibitors into the Lilly portfolio. These candidates target residual and chronic inflammation, which is increasingly recognized as a hidden driver in cardiometabolic health, neurodegeneration, and autoimmune diseases. - Lastly, a major evolution in the pharma services sector. Knipper Health has officially rebranded as
CareTria . The shift marks the company’s transition into a fully integrated therapy initiation platform. Following the acquisition of eBlu Solutions, Caretria is integrating digital enrollment, real-time benefit investigation, and multi-modal fulfillment into a single ecosystem.
